What is God’s Storehouse?

God’s Storehouse is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores and distributes large quantities of food to the poor, the elderly, and children.  The project was established in 1987 by a group of area churches dedicated to serving the underprivileged in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.  To date, 100 congregations of various denominations in Danville and Pittsylvania country have joined together in creating God’s Storehouse, with more joining every day.

God’s Storehouse is supported solely by member churches and private contributions.  There are three paid staff members: a Director, a Secretary, and a Warehouse Assistant.  The rest are volunteer workers dedicated to helping our less fortunate neighbors who are hungry.

God's Storehouse, serves two basic categories of clients: Those not eligible for food stamps, and those who are eligible for food stamps. Those not eligible for food stamps may receive food boxes every two (2) weeks. Clients receiving food stamps may receive food boxes every four (4) weeks.

God's Storehouse gave away 26,558 boxes of food in 2009. Since 2004 they've seen over a 60% increase in the total number of food boxes distributed
